PlayStation Plus October 2017: MGSV: The Phantom Pain is Free for PS Plus Subs

The PlayStation Blog is up to their usual antics. I usually wait until the day of to write this post, but I'm so excited about Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain being free for PlayStation Plus subscribers. Like Final Fantasy XV last year, I played this game practically everyday from release day to the end of 2015. Although it may not be my favorite Metal Gear game in the series (that belongs to Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater), the gameplay is phenomenal.

There are so many ways to complete a mission, and you feel so freaking awesome no matter how you do it. For example, I got very frustrated one time because I kept getting caught by the guards that I decided enough was enough and started shooting down helicopters with an RPG and going to town on everyone else with every weapon I brought with me. All I wanted to do was sneak around the base, maybe knock out some people with tranquilizers or choke holds... but, no. Didn't happen. In fact, it was a lot like this:

Anyway, this game is a lot of fun. I can't say much about the other games since I have yet to play them, but I definitely think MGSV makes having PlayStation Plus worth it this month. Here's the rest of the lineup:
  • Metal Gear Solid V | PS4 | $19.99
  • Amnesia: Collection | PS4 | $29.99
  • Monster Jam Battlegrounds | PS3 | $9.99
  • Hustle Kings (not confirmed: PS Vita cross-buy) | PS3 | $9.99
  • Hue | PS Vita (PS4 cross-buy) | $14.99
  • Sky Force Anniversary (PS4 and PS3 cross-buy) | PS Vita | $9.99
Total Amount for October: $94.94

PlayStation Plus: September 2017 Free Games

It's the first Tuesday of a new month, and you know what that usually means on the PlayStation Store: new games to download for free if you're a PlayStation Plus subscriber.

As always, I'll include the current price of the games, add up the total, and show you how much you save this month with PlayStation Plus... assuming you don't own any of these games.

Looking at the list on the PlayStation Store, I don't have any of these games. I inFAMOUS Second Son when it was originally released. It's a fun game. The story is rather lackluster, but the gameplay is fun, so I do recommend giving it a try. Especially if you've played inFAMOUS and inFAMOUS 2 on the PlayStation 3.

Here's the list of free games for PlayStation Plus subscribers:

PlayStation 4

inFAMOUS Second Son | $19.99
Strike Vector EX | $14.99

PlayStation VR

RIGS Mechanized Combat League | $29.99

PlayStation 3

Truck Racer | $9.99
Handball 2016 | $19.99

PlayStation Vita

We Are Doomed (Cross-buy with PS4) | $9.99
Hatoful Boyfriend (Cross-buy with PS4) | $9.99

This month's free games ends up saving you $114.93. That's nearly double what you end up paying for a year's worth of PlayStation Plus. Not bad. That being said, I don't know if I can vouch for all the games listed above other than inFAMOUS Second Son, but even then that saves you $19.99.

PlayStation Plus Free Games for May 2017

Yesterday, the PlayStation Blog revealed the May's PlayStation Plus lineup of free games. As always, we will list the title of the game, the console it is for, and its current price on the PlayStation Store. We'll even inform you if the game is a cross buy game, meaning that a free PS Vita game is a cross buy game with the PS4 version, then you end up getting both versions. That won't change the amount of money you end up saving as a PlayStation Plus user though.

May PS Plus Lineup:

  • Tales from the Borderlands | PS4 | $14.99
  • Abzu | PS4 | $19.99
  • Blood Knights | PS3 | $9.99
  • Port Royale 3: Pirates and Merchants | PS3 | $9.99
  • Laser Disco Defenders | PS Vita (cross buy: PS4) | $9.99
  • Type:Rider | PS Vita (cross buy: PS4) | $7.99

Total Amount for May: $72.94

The only game I have from May's lineup is Tales from the Borderlands. I have yet to play it, but if it is anything like previous Telltale Games, I'll probably like it. I had some issues with Batman, but that was more on the technical side than the story itself. We need to review that game. Anyway, that's a post for another day.

What do you think of next month's lineup? Let us know in the comments section below. Thanks!
